Speech of EDS Chairman Mr. Bence Bauer at the EPP Statutory Congress in Bonn (December 8 – 11 2009)

Dear President Martens,
dear Secretary General Lopez-Isturiz,
honorary Presidency of the European People´s Party
dear Ladies and Gentlemen!

Thank you very much – first of all, let me express my appreciation for our good cooperation with the European People´s Party. Formed in 1961, representing 500.000 young people and students from all over Europe, EDS is a steady and successful partner for the European People´s Party and we will always keep articulating young people´s opinions.

This autumn, we are debating the defeat of communism – this is a good debate! As Hungarian I myself was born on the Eastern side of the Iron Curtain – some might call it the wrong side. I remember my family being deprived from freedom and living under the constraints and the rule of a dictatorship, even me being a small child that time.

Today, 20 years after, EDS remembers this time and has collected young people´s testimonies. Have a look at our newest publications, you can find them at the stand of European Democrat Students. This is our campaign „20 years after – generation 1989 speaks out“

20 years after – this is more than a commemoration or a campaign. Let us talk about the future, let us talk about 20 years after TODAY.

How should Europe look in 2039? It is the young people from today wo will have to live then, 20 years after. Please never forget this when decisions are made nowadays, on the European stage. This Europe, wanted by the youngsters, must be ONE EUROPE!

One Europe means a full unification of our continent.

One Europe means a powerful voice of Europe in the world.

One Europe means full mobility of all Europeans.

One Europe means the removal of barriers in all respects.

One Europe means the successful moral transition, where our people are those of the future and not those of the past, of communism, dictatorship and oppression.

EDS started struggling for ONE EUROPE in the early sixties and we will continue the struggle for the full unification of our continent. Our aim is not just to unite states, our aim is to unite PEOPLE!!!

Thank you for the attention.
