Budapest / Vienna, 11&12th March
The EDS delegation headed by EDS Chairman Bence Bauer took part at the 2010 Bologna Ministerial Conference. At the end of the period set up for the creation of the European Higher Education Area, European Democrat Students were present in Budapest and Vienna where 47 countries gathered in order to look forward the next decade.
The summit provided the opportunity for personal talks with many heads of delegations whereas EDS could get in direct touch with Higher Education ministers. The differences of national HE structures does not affect the will of fulfilling the Bologna action lines.
EDS represent a point of view shared by millions of students interested in a quality Higher Education allowing mobility, as asserted in the EDS Statement to the current state of the Bologna Process adopted at the XXth EDS Winter University (Brussels, 27th of February). We are aware of the needs for improvement in the implementation of Bologna but the process itself shall be pursued.
Demonstrations against the Bologna Process were quite strong in Vienna. However, the protesters did not took the floor when the Austrian minister came to engage a dialogue in a specially created public space. EDS representatives were the only students taking the opportunity to adress personnally the minister, Ms Karl.
European Democrat Students welcome the Budapest-Vienna Declaration on the European Higher Education Area. EDS will take his part in the upcoming work involving student representatives at European, national and especially institutional levels in order to achieve the European Higher Education Area.
