European Democrat Students (EDS) commemorated the 6th anniversary of the death of the 40th President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan (1911-2004).
Chairman of EDS Bence Bauer placed a wreath at the Ronald Reagan statute in the Városliget City Park in Budapest and commemorated this way. He declared that Reagan was a fighter for freedom and democracy worldwide, but especially in Europe. "We can be grateful to such historical personalities like Ronald Reagan who helped to tear down the Iron Curtain and to liberate all Europe" he concluded. The defeat of communism in Central Eastern Europe is strongly linked with the lifework of Ronald Reagan.EDS being committed to the fight for freedom, democracy and human rights was a pioneer in the European freedom movement and fought already in the early 60s for a peaceful reunification of the continent. Ronald Reagan as President of the USA from 1981-1989 had an eminent role of achieving these goals. The statute in Budapest being erected to say thank you to him and to the United States is unique in its way and the only one in Central Eastern Europe.
EDS will always remember this outstanding personality and asks everybody not to forget the impact of great leaders bringing democracy and freedom, lighting the way to new hope and confidence.
